I kind of take the view that over time, anything I buy now will get better and eventually the iPhone will cut it for OCR. I won't be surprised when Docuscan Plus appears for iPhone!

Cheers

Although the iPhone has a flash much the same engineering and economics apply. Few of the Nokia phones really had decent flashes either. This means that particular in indoor and non-ideal conditions the results are a bit patchy.

Such would be a major feat and particularly high upfront investment even assuming the hardware is up to it. The result is those developers buying in ready cooked OCR solutions and doing a little tweaking but not the kind of optimisation work that happened with KNFB Reader for all the price it costs it does actually give you some tolerance.

As a Mac user, I'm eagerly anticipating Docuscan Plus which is now in beta and sounds like it should be very useful, but nobody has come close to Kurzweil or KNFB apart from that.
