[BCAB] USB players and talking book machines

Hi Mel.

Well, that's the only machine from RNIB under the rental scheme they offer
which will play from multiple sources. I'm sure if the customer wants to
exchange their machine, providing they can give a good reason then the RNIB
will oblige.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Correction I meant the PTX1 of course!

Not everyone has this machine as standard though? It can't be assumed that
because someone is a member of the talking book library, they will
automatically have this machine.

Hi Tim.

Yes, the PTX1 from Plextalk which is the standard rental from RNIB will play
from USB memory sticks, just as it will play from SD cards and of course
cd's. The formats supported are all the same across all media types. Make
sure though that the newspaper formats its pens using the standard FAT
filing system to ensure compatibility. I format all my pen drives using the
NTFS filing system in Windows which is not compatible with the Plextalk
machines.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi All,

Does anyone know if the machines rented out to people by the RNIB for the
talking book service can play MP3 files on USB memory sticks? Our talking
newspaper is progressing towards digital distribution on memory sticks, and
we're trying to work out how many of our users will already have machines
that they would be able to use to play the material.

Regards and thanks in advance for info,

Tim Pennick
