This is the correct procedure indeed. In order for you to save time, you
can download past purchases from the app store, under the purchased tab.
Just bear in mind that certain apps are designed specifically for iphone
only so may appear blurred and out of shape with slightly distorted
graphics or poor display if you were to use an iPad display to view them.
If you are a VoiceOver user, this should generally not make much of a
difference as they will still be functional even if not very aesthetically
pleasing. The converse is not true as apps designed specifically for the
iPad may not necessarily work on an iPhone so you have been warned!
Newstand does not work on an iPhone on the whole but should be functional
on an iPad even though there is no guarantee on the accessibility of
certain newspapers and magazines. Garage band, Bento, iAnotate, Filemaker
Go are just examples of iPad specific apps and best used on iPads alone.
In the majority of cases, if you were to download an iPad app on an iPhone,
the new device will not allow this download. I hope this helps.
