Hi Chris,

This is not correct.  With the new API, if an app is not updated, you will
no longer be able to receive direct messages.

The Api changes won't affect us in the immediate future however they are 
encouraging developers to use the revised Api when creating or updating 
their clients. So what Twitter is doing is having a random blackout for 
an hour per day which will disable a feature in the old Api so that 
developers will have an idea what is going to happen.
