Richard,

I'm with David on this. I've never had a problem with Stanza, despite the
fact that they've halted development and support for it now. It seems to do
the job.

You could use Adobe Digital Editions but I much prefer Stanza Desktop for PC
which does not hassle me about libraries etc.  when you open the book and
just simply opens the file and provides intuitive easy keyboard access.
There are good inbuilt  conversion options as well in Stanza. 

However if you are talking about DRM copy protected ePub then I think Adobe
Digital Editions is your only PC option. On iOS the Book Supplier will
normally provide an app. So iBooks for Apple store purchased books, Nook for
Barnes etc.
