Cheers for that Phil, I will bear it in mind if the problem resurfaces.

Using Windows 7 SP1 I had an 'important' Intel Graphics update delivered via
Windows Update. It repeatedly failed. The solution I found was to go to
the Intel website, locate the downloadable installation package for the same
update, ie my graphics drivers, and run it manually. Intel also provides a
diagnostic tool that will help identify any missing Intel updates. I found
these items using a search engine. Together they fixed the problem. Once I
had successfully installed the graphics drivers manually, the failing Intel
update disappeared from Windows Update.

Maybe this strategy might help you too.

Phil

Hi David and Clive

I tried everything as well, but never got to the bottom of it. I must admit
I haven't seen anything amiss since updating to Windows 10 though. What
operating system are you guys using?

Clive,

I think ignoring the update isn't really an answer, but is probably the one
given by most so-called help desks.
Something is clearly wrong. Have you tried:
Going into device manager, and updating the driver manually for your intel
graphics?

David.

Hi David,

Jim might not be the only one having problems with an'important' update from
INTEL. I have been trying to instal one for about 36 hours now, but have so
far failed miserably.

I've tried every trick I can think of, including your idea about disabling
any running anti-virus/firewall software, but nothing has altered the
pattern of events in the slightest.

The pattern goes that the installation runs for about 20-30 seconds after
I've hit enter on the 'install' button, and then a 'retry' button appears,
together with an error message and a code I've never seen before. This is
80070103 and despite a search using Google I can find no information about
it!

Cheers,

Clive.S
