Steve,

I agree in this instance, the Android refund policy is hugely superior to
the Apple one. However I do feel that there's a growing concern that people
can't simply answer a question without trying to sell something else. Jackie
asked "how do I do that?" and got 2 responses which basically said "like
this, but you could have a better experience changing your hole platform".
Not to nitpick, Steve, but your own response didn't even answer the original
question!

Discussion and debate is important and I'm as guilty as everyone else of
having my own agenda but I just think perhaps we could all benefit, before
hitting reply, on thinking if our comments are going to help the person
asking the question, further the discussion in a meaningful way, or indeed
whether the subject needs changing.

Sean.

Sean,

That wasn't the intent, my point was just that if Google did it, and Apple
normally have a great customer service policy, they should have a better
method for refunds.

All the best

Steve

Jackie,

The problem with the RNIB recommending apps is that oftentimes people with
more vision than others have a lot of say in the choosing. It's not a very
well-described app either, it sounds as iff someone either sighted or with a
lot of vision tried it out first, or to be honest that they just read the
copy online and went with that.

Personally I wouldn't be without the app now. I use it on packets, jars,
boxes, screens, signs and all sorts of things. As I mentioned earlier in
the week I don't find it very helpful for documents directly, but it's great
for me when it comes to food expiration dates, setting the temperature on
the air conditioning units at work or choosing the HDMI output on
inaccessible TVs, all the niggly little jobs where the time taken to "take
picture" might be a problem etc. I do find it unfortunate that Apple's
refund policy isn't as wonderful as Googles, but also think that we don't
need yet another thread descending into anarchy about the best mobile OS,
either...

Thanks Richard, will do this when I get my bill Email which hasn't come
through yet. I wouldn't bother if it were only a pound or two, but I don't
think this app is worth the money, and I am surprised even further that RNIB
has it as app of the month!

Jackie, If you look at the e-mail confirming the purchase, you should have a
link called "report a problem".

If you activate the link, you should be taken to a page with a combo box on
it which allows you to select the reason for the problem, and there's a box
where you can enter other comments. Seems straightforward enough, but
haven't had my refund yet!

Hi Richard

How do you do that, please? It is something I have never done given that
apps I have tried before that haven't worked are cheap enough as a rule.

Yes, I've asked for a refund. Anyone know how long they take to process
requests?

I bought this app last night following the various comments on and off list
about it. I have to say, however, that I couldn't put hand on heart and
recommend it. I appreciate it takes a lot of practice, and am prepared to
take that into account. But it does a lot of beeping - which frankly drives
me round the bend - and does pick up text, but doesn't always read it that
well. It seems to like objects rather than documentation, I find, such as
the washing-machine, or a computer keyboard. It is very early days, but I'm
not overly impressed if I am being honest. I turned off the beeping, but
unless it was me, I couldn't get much out of it when I did that. I find I
can achieve much more with K-NFB Reader, but I will keep trying and see what
happens. At the moment though, I find it a very irritating, time-consuming
process.
