Hi John,

I got no communication at all after the welcome Email, not just the one
Email. Please send me the report.

Thanks.

All the best

Steve

Hi all,

I just checked and have been reassured that all participants "...were sent a
link to the story on the website that linked to the results and the exec
summary in accessible format" so if you didn't get that then I presume there
must have been a problem with the email address we had for you or there may
have been an overzealous spam filter or something. If anyone wants a copy of
the report then email broadcasting at rnib.org.uk and we can send one out to
you. I can only apologise to anyone who didn't get it the first time.

Thanks,

John

That is why I wouldn't offer again, because it is a waste of time and effort
to get no response at all.

Hi,

My real issue as I said, is that RNIB signed people up, then never
communicated with them, or seemed to ignore them. This was certainly true
with the Overdrive trial as well.

All the best

My issue with the original trial was that the audio description track either
didn't sync with the movie at all, or if it did it would get out of sync and
then would not sync again. My feeling was nice concept but left a lot to be
desired in the application. But perhaps I was the only one who experienced
this. If I'm around on the day I might think about going.

advise against it?

description tracks. Content shown in different places is often a different
cut and may even be at a different frame rate so currently there is little
reuse possible for existing AD tracks. Even without the technical hurdles
the licensing conversations for AD tracks are less straightforward than you
would think. We continue to explore this idea but so far the best option is
still to get video on demand providers to audio describe their content as
part of their platform. We've had some progress here with companies like
Netflix and there's further potential now that Ofcom will be empowered to
put pressure on VOD service providers.
>
> The potential for the app in cinemas is more straightforward since the
track can be linked to the cinema chain and they could then offer AD on all
their showings in all cinemas rather than only on a specific few. I suspect
that is why the UK Cinema Association is interested. If cinemas are
potentially considering this then should we be encouraging them or are there
unforeseen problems that mean we should tell them to hold off for now? That
is why we need another trial.

To highlight the importance of protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays in
sunlight, we're celebrating National Sunglasses Day on Tuesday 27 June. Just
wear your shades and a smile, take a selfie and post it to social media
using #shadesforsight.
