Yes Steve that's exactly my view.
AS I regularly say, someone doing a demo of a Braille device who doesn’t
know Braille and can't effectively use it has about as much credibility as a
totally blind person doing a demo of a video magnifier!

Hi Terry,

Thanks for that.  I think it's very hard to sell a Braille device, if you
are not a Braillist.  You tend to overpromise and under-deliver, but that's
just my take on it.  You and I have seen it far too often, I'm sure.

A demo shouldn’t have a time restriction, within reason placed on it,
especially for a product that costs what the ElBraille does.
The demonstrator should find out what you want to use the product for, as
far as that's possible, have an idea of your technical knowledge and
experience, and centre the demo around you and your needs.
Equally the person should have a detailed knowledge of the product being
demonstrated, and be happy to answer questions at the end about any aspect
of the product, pricing, and after sales service.
Finally before leaving they should find out if you'd like anything done from
a follow up perspective, written product info, a quotation etc.
I know that's the kind of approach people like Steve use, and, it's what
worked for me for the many years I had the pleasure of visiting people at
home and at work and demonstrating technology!

I think probably 1 to 1 hour 30 minutes depending on the customer and their
knowledge of the device being demonstrated.
I was only given about 20 minutes as the person demonstrating wanted to get
home and not stuck in traffic.
I wasn't therefore able to test all aspects of the device.

I agree the elbraille is convenient and when I get mine easy to use.
The price is somewhat confusing however.
A sales person from s and s came to visit my home, he could only stay a
short time so I couldn't get a good look at the device.
I was told the price would be £20001. I said I would have to spread the
cost.
I went online and went through the process. The company Used is called
devide by.
They told me however the cost was 2297 and I would have to pay a deposit of
£114.
Wasn't told that when sales person called.
However I am pleased to be receiving the convenient device to use although
suffering the inconvenience of incorrect information is a worry.

I agree, these are exciting times, and a new direction from the traditional
note-takers.

Mo also sells Compute Sticks if anyone wants a crack at one.  My only
reservation is the reason you outline, Gena, in that there are so many
accessories you would need to make it a convenient proposition.

I just love the way we are able to access some of this kit now though, it's
fab.

I think that the possibilities for roll-your-own notetakers are opening up.
This is also more future-proof than bying an ElBraille. It looks like the
form factor / packaging of solutions is the challenge at the moment, i.e.
how to get off the shelf components to fit together in a neat, portable and
practical way. Exciting times indeed!

I look forward to hearing how you get on with your rig, as I've been
thinking of trying something like this out myself -- I have an old Focus 40
Blue display that could form part of the experiment on my side, albeit a
rather bulky part!
