Well just try something like Bluesound, especially as some albums are now available in 24-bit Flac, which is better quality than CD.

All the best

Hello Steve

I'll give them a try.

Interesting discussion on smart home devices. I have very low expectations of them when it comes to listening to music. I figure they are more or less a very good transistor radio for lack of a better comparison on my part.

I don't think I will ever find them as satisfying to my ears as a pare of B&W speakers connected to a Harmon Kardin tube amp playing a very clean vinyl record. I realise listening to music is extremely subjective and like art personal as well. To me this combination is what I like, because string instruments and vocals sound very natural. And I even enjoy listening to genres of music that might not appeal to me when the sound system is of a high quality.

Vic

Hi Vic,

Try Tidal, it's even better. Qobuz is even better still.

All the best

I do not know how widely available it is, but I am impressed with the sound quality of Deezer. As of now, I am only using the free service. This does not allow me to connect via Google Home. I can stream it through the app on my iPhone though.

What he actually means is out of that lot, Tidal is the best. This is because Tidal lets you stream in low or high res.

It isn’t necessarily about the number of songs you have in your catalogue, nor the quality of those songs in terms of bit rate. It’s how that service allows you to access find and connect with the music you love and discover new songs. Look at this article from business insider which ranks of Spotify as the best overall music service of 2019.

Ibrahim, you are spitting out the old marketing hype, Spotify is the number one in the world. I would disagree now, if even Amazon are getting in on the high res gain, I think more people care about good quality audio than ever before.

Spotify has approx. 40 million tracks, Google Play has 45 million, as does Qobuz and Tidal. Go figure. That doesn't sound like the number one anything to me.

All the best

Hi
It sounds like an interesting streaming service, and to be honest I have been putting off high definition as an option for awhile even though I think I could benefit from it however I need to make sure that Amazon can come up with a compelling speaker option to make high definition affordable. The fact is, average Joe doesn’t really care about audio quality so long as it is good enough, which is probably why there are so few high definition of streaming services on the market and Spotify is the number one streaming service in the world despite not offering a high-definition option. As for downloading content, from what I understand Amazon is not going to be selling high-definition content through the Amazon Music store, you will only be able to access high-definition content through Amazon Music Subscriptions.

Hi John,

If you subscribe to the service and set it up as default, it will play the highest version available when you ask Alexa to play in the specific room, or set Alexa to play through the Sonos by default by putting it in the same room in the Alexa app and setting the default output.

I have had a go with it and it certainly is impressive, though as Steve says it only plays CD quality on the Sonos side. You seem to be able to download the files with the Amazon iOS app, though I need to work out whether they can send me hi-res files, the thing here is the files need to be protected somehow as I haven't purchased the tracks as such.

At this point I am looking seriously about getting a smaller phone contract without Spotify and using Amazon music instead, Spotify now has one of the poorer quality streaming quality options.

Andrew.

hi steve

thanks for that it seems to say the new sonos move will stream high rles but i must have a read again about it i think if you subscribe you get three months trial and seems to read that you can download tracks but of course they are much larger files as you will know. by heck it's a complicated subject bluesound must be one of the best setups for high res music though.
