Got to add to this. I use control w to close the tab and it closes the
whole browser if it's the first time in that session. I've signed into
Chrome, I open a new page from Google search, then close it with Control w,
and the whole session closes. I do it again and just the new window closes.
I deleted Chrome and re-installed it afresh, but it's still doing the same.

Subject: [BCAB] closing chrome tabs, changed behaviour
I've noticed over the last couple of weeks or so that when using Chrome on
windows 10, if I used ctrl +f4 to close a tab it closes the entire Chrome
window not just the tab with focus. Ctrl -w does still close the focused tab
It's very annoying as I'm still in the habit of automatically hitting ctrl
+f4. Has anyone else noticed it and/or can suggest a way around it.
I'm on chrome version 77.0.3865.120
